ABOUT THE SERIES

The MIoD Leadership Series is designed to provide insights, knowledge and thought leadership to enable board directors and senior management to stay abreast of evolving challenges and trends and pursue continual learning to remain effective leaders. 

We are delighted to announce that the fifth instalment of this series will be delivered by the well-known and well-respected Prof. Dr. Aung Tun Thet on the topic of “Servant First” Leader.

 

ABOUT THE SESSION

‘Servant/First’ Leadership is leadership style which is contrary to traditional understanding of leadership. It requires authenticity and humility on the part of leaders. The seminar will address the questions of ‘why’, ‘how’, and ‘what’ of servant leaderships. It will also touch on how business leaders can apply servant leadership principles in the workplace. The 10 Principles of Servant Leadership will be shared as well as the 7 characteristics of servant leaders. It is hoped that the seminar will promote rethinking and refocusing of leadership styles to be in congruence with contemporary times.

Prof. Dr. Aung Tun Thet Professor Dr. Aung Tun Thet is a Founding Patron of the Myanmar Institute of Directors and an Advisor to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI). He is Professor Emeritus at Yangon University of Economics, a Visiting Professor at Payap University in Chiangmai, Thailand as well as an Honorary Professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He is a Former Principal Officer, UN Systems Staff College in Turin, Italy. Professor Dr. Aung Tun Thet holds a number of degrees including B.Com. (YGN); Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (Brighton, UK): M.Sc. (Warwick, UK); Ph.D. (UMIST, UK); Post-doctoral Fellow (Germany).
